The Militarization of Sex | Foreign Policy

…Mutaa is a form of “temporary marriage” only acceptable within Shiite communities, one that allows couples to have religiously sanctioned sex for a limited period of time, without any commitments, and without the obligatory involvement of religious figures. In conservative Muslim societies known for their strict sense of propriety, mutaa offers an escape clause. The contract is very simple. The woman says: “I marry myself to you for [a specific period of time] and for [a specified dowry]” and the man says: “I accept.” The period can range between one hour and a year, and is subject to renewal. A Muslim woman can only marry a Muslim man, but a Muslim man can temporarily marry a Muslim, Christian, or Jewish woman, as long as she is a divorce or a widow. However, those interviewed for this article confirmed that Hezbollah-the “Party of God”-has allowed the practice to spread to virgins or girls who have never married before, as long as the permission of her guardian (father or paternal grandfather) is obtained…

The peace loving Gay Association of Maldives (GAM) has released a press release expressing sadness for the banning of the movie Bruno in this country. Bruno was banned by Islamic Ministry of the Maldives controlled by the extremist Islamist Adhaalath Party. Bruno was banned because he was trying to make peace between Palestine and Israelis. This also include banning of bleaching the rear. But bleaching beard is encouraged. END.

Bruno had only one thing to say: “Ich ben famous in Maldives nu!”

Dhiraagu mobile internet is 65x times more expensive than that of Wataniya’s!!!!! 65 (Sixtyfive) times more. With the packages it’s even better priced on Wataniya!!And Dhiraagu’s speed is so low!!

1. All government officers (specially ministers) and school children use carbon-free transportation to come to work or school. (They could bicycle, walk or even car-pool in the worst case). At least once a week (Thursdays).

2. To hold future cabinet meetings (and other meetings) in spaces with no air-conditioning. (This could be in open spaces such as the rooftop gardens or courtyards of their office buildings.) At least once a week (Thursdays).

3. All government officers and school children to stop ironing clothes. (Money saved on electricity bill from this can be used to buy a personal solar panel for themselves). At least once a week (Thursdays).

4. All the organisers of ‘green’ publicity events resort to carbon-free transportation systems, and none air-conditioned rooms (at least for the meetings regarding the cause) as much as possible. Because riding a bike for TV and riding motorcycle all other times gives mixed messages, specially in small island nations.

Perhaps it is hard to let go of the corruption links and networks?

Whoever is in-charge of Invest Maldives (and http://www.investmaldives.com) is doing a really bad job!

Not very good investment incentives highlighted and still has the old baggage linked and visible (though not linked from the main page).

Invest Maldives is just a new facade over the old corrupt FISB links and networks. WTF?????
